Affordable alarm/detector
By "easy installation," they're not kidding: just remove from packaging and plug-in to your wall. We opted for this, rather basic, model over the one with battery backup and/or digital readouts for ease of use. I just wanted something we could set and forget. I like that these units have a built-in 'end of life' feature, that alerts you to when its time to buy a new one (7 years from installation; unit will chirp every minute). There is a faint red light (see pic) that glows behind the "test" tab that shows you the unit has power.

Carbon monoxide detectors save lives! This is my 5th First Alert model and they work great and a priced fairly
Folks please, buy a carbon monoxide detector! They can and do saves live every day. I had this same unit in my heated work shop and it was chirping at me. I wasn't sure why since it is a plug in model, but after some research I learned it was over 7 years old and the detector was telling me it was time to replace it. So I turned to Amazon and bought the same one again. First Alert has been around forever and they make a good product. You can't smell carbon monoxide and it will kill you in your sleep. I know that it's another 25 bucks to spend, but you and your families lives are worth it. You should have several in your home and at least one in any heated shop or garage. Bug your friends too if they don't have them. Get any brand...just get one!

told me these plug in models are much better and I didn't have to drag out a ladder ...
This is my second plug in CO alarm. I had 2 that were wired in and they had to be replaced often because they kept beeping when there was no heat running. Fire Dept. told me these plug in models are much better and I didn't have to drag out a ladder to install.

Nice CO detector -- 3 pack is the right size for me
I had older First Alert CO detectors that eventually wore out (they last 7 years and must be replaced). One thing that annoyed me about the old ones was the battery backup -- it was plugged in to the wall but the battery still wore down (typically in the middle of the night). There is still a version if you want the battery backup, but mine does not have it and I like that. These take a single outlet and are suitable for placing low to the ground. They have a very faint red light -- probably not enough for a nightlight and not so bright that it bothers me when sleeping. These are good to have for safety and I like this model.

Simple/Easy
I like that these don’t take batteries like a smoke alarm. The situation where the power goes out and there’s a CO issue would only be cause by pure stupidity with lightinga grill indoors. These are simple and the “on” light is not terribly bright for night bedroom use. Hopefully I’ll never need these (as in hope we never have a CO problem.....)

Good price, effortless installation.
Couldn't get any easier to install than this: 1) Remove from box. 2) Plug it in. We didn't have a CO detector in our house at all, and I decided against the combination smoke alarm/CO detectors because CO apparently collects nearer the floor first. By the time it would reach the ceiling (where our smoke/fire detectors live), it would probably be far too late. I recognized this brand, other reviews looked decent, and the price was affordable. I bought a couple, and I intend to pick up a third to put in our basement in the same room as the furnace. A lot of people don't even think about a CO detector--and that's a mistake. Cost should not be prohibitive for most, and set up requires no effort. Before buying (because a friend said we really ought to have one) I did a quick search on how many we’d need. About.com advised, “If you have fuel-burning appliances on more than one level of your home, you should have a carbon monoxide detector on each floor. For example, if you have a gas range on the main floor and a wood-burning fireplace on the lower level, you should have detectors on each of these floors.” I can’t imagine it getting any easier than this to take a basic step to make our home safer.

Smart & Simple...
This is my 12th unit I've bought over the last few years, because they are reliable, solid, and quick/easy plug-in set up. I have rental properties as well as flip homes, every inspector has checked the carbon monoxide off the list immediately when seeing these plugged in. And if it's in a spot they want changed...unplug it and move it where everyone is happy. Simple! Why deal with batteries and mounting another product on the wall? Really? If that's your bag, go for it. I'll keep buying these for my own home and new purchases in the future.

So much easier than mounting and batteries
OK, so these limit you to outlets in the wall instead of letting you pick any mounting spot. But SO much easier than drilling, dry wall anchors, wood screws and batteries. Just open the package and plug them in. Badda bing, badda boom.

Works beautifully!
This device works! It is so loud that you’d have time to get Out of the area where carbon monoxide is present. Hubby turned on the truck with the muffler facing the inside of the garage, left it on for a little bit, left and closed The garage. I was in bed on the other side of the house (1,700sq) and I could hear a loud beep. When I finally found where the loud noise was coming from and opened the garage I found the device doing its job perfectly. Very appreciative. I have one in the garage one in the kitchen where we have a gas stove.

My old one conked out after about 14 years.. My power was out for 17 hours one time so I wheeled out the generator and cranked it up. Unfortunately I made the dumb mistake of running it in the garage so it wouldn't get wet since it was raining outside. A few hours late the Carbon Monoxide detector let out a series of beeps that were different my five smoke detectors. It was the first and last time I ran the generator in the garage. If the occasion occurs when I need to run it for a long period again. I will put it out under the patio cover...
